On the Job

Image
This week we were tasked with capturing the working people that we encountered around town.  On April 29th, 2023 Olivia Robert's (left) and Michael Blains (right) were sharpening some knives before I interrupted them. These two run a knife sharpening stand at the Saturday Market in Corvallis, OR. Michael has been running this stand for about 12 years and has had Olivia's help for the previous 2 years. Their favorite part about working the stand is having people come back and express how sharp the knifes are after being sharpened; or they return with a band aid. They're busy every weekend during the Saturday Market. On April 29th, 2023 at Coffee Culture in downtown Corvallis it was a busy morning for Alexis Grundler. She's been working at this location since last May and loves how being a barista allows her to meet the community of Corvallis. She also mentioned how wonderful her coworkers are and how they are the ones that make the work days so easy and fun.

Trip to OSU's Dairy Farm

Image
This week my Animal Science class took a trip to OSU's Dairy Farm. Larissa Lewis gave us a full tour of the facility and a look into the day to day activities that their cows participate in. Containing over 200 cows and 150 acres for both grazing and feeding the facility caters to every cows possible need.    Our first stop was with the baby calves, these little ones range from 1 week to about 6 weeks. Drinking about 2 quarts of milk a day as well as supplements to make sure they are strong and healthy. After those initial weeks inside their own pens they are transferred to larger pens to get them used to sharing space with eachother. Around the same time their diet changes to grass and rolled corn. Finally these larger shared pens on the right are for the cows who are close to birthing a new calf when they are 2 weeks out they will get their own pen to birth their calf. On the right we have one cow with mastitis, a bacterial infection in the utters, who needs some time to he

First Project

For this week we were tasked with providing an overall, medium and close-up photo. To accomplish this on Saturday the 8th of April I was able to find a group of people standing up for the Ukraine of which has been locked in a war with Russia for about the past 2 years. They were a great set of people that allowed me to take as many pictures as I wanted which was very much needed. Big smiles from everyone involved even after being outside for hours. Honking cars pass by with a wave from those standing with Ukraine. Their main table filled with blue and yellow bracelets and flags. An attendee looks for new stickers to add to their car or notebook.

About Me

Hi my name is Jett. This is about my third year here at Linn Benton Community college and I am currently working towards a HDFS (Human development and family science) degree. With that degree I hope to go into counseling. For me this class is essentially just for the credit so that I can transfer to OSU with an associates degree but photography has always been an interest.     My photography experience goes back to high school where they provided a full film photography experience. It gave a great introduction to using light, rule of thirds, and there basics. One of the best parts of it by far was using the dark room that they provided and processing our black and white photos. While I don't think this sort of thing will become a career path I would love to continue this as a hobby.
